4th of July
It’s been a while since I’ve been in town for July 4th. I was hungry to host a gathering this year, as I have so many times in the past. There is something about the sun setting, muscling our way into my place through the rowdy beach crowds, settling on my deck or living room, talking and drinking and eating, gathering sweaters and scarves and trudging back out through the cold sand, back to the water’s edge to get a good view of the fireworks display, impressively executed by the good people of Marina del Rey. A gaggle of friends, old and new, great conversations, lots of laughs, good music and those fiery blasts of color and sound reminding you not so subtly that you are alive.
