A Cup of Book Soup

I had my Bear Witness launch party last week at Book Soup, one of my favorite remaining bookstores in L.A. I remember when Book Soup opened. It was the “it” bookstore, the place to be seen, the hippest of the hip. Now, 30 years later (is it really 30? Okay, maybe I don’t technically “remember when it opened”, but I do remember when I started going there in the 80’s), and Book Soup still remains, it’s shelves stuffed with books, books spilling out on counters, books, books everywhere. That place is delicious – the people so knowledgable and helpful.

Lots of books, lots of people

It was a dark and stormy night. No, really, it was stormy, as in it was the one night in the past hundred or so, that it rained. And while our drought-riddled city needed it, our traffic-riddled city did not. That’s why I appreciated, no! Revered! NO! WORSHIPPED!!! every single person who made the effort to attend the reading. Book Soup+rainy night+wine = a very special night. I was so happy to be able to talk about my (sometimes harrowing) journey to writing my book.

Next up is San Francisco, Portland, New York.

If you were there that night: Thank you.

If you’ve read the book: Thank you.

If you’ve reviewed the book: Thank you.

And a heartfelt thank you to Book Soup, for letting me be a part of the mix.
